We don’t need a reason to enjoy a delicious ice cream sundae, but if you’re looking for an excuse, here’s a great one: July is National Ice Cream Month, and National Ice Cream Day is the 3rd Sunday in July.
Choosing which flavor to savor is almost as difficult as choosing a shop! Here’s some of Spartanburg’s favorite creameries:
Angel Scoops Ice-Creamery and Cafe, (130 West Main St, Duncan)
From Rocky Road and Brown Butter Bourbon Truffle, to Playdough and Lil ' Blue Panda, Duncan's downtown dessert shoppe is full of creative flavors! Angel Scoops Tuesday through Sunday, with indoor party rooms, lawn and gazebo seating, and frequent events such as movie nights.
Averie’s Ice Cream Shoppe, (9329 Asheville Hwy, Inman)
Did you know that Averie’s Ice Cream Shoppe was started by Holmes Catering? The business behind Take It Holmes gourmet meals to-go has a westside location (1930 Old Reidville Rd,) and combined their Inman location under one roof with Averie’s. The eatery-sweetery combo is open seven days a week.
Big Ben’s Desserts & Ice Cream, (297 Spartanburg Hwy, Lyman)
Big Ben’s is your one-stop-shop for ice cream sundaes, hand-baked brownies and cupcakes, milkshakes, Ben Hall’s famous banana pudding, and more. Build your own sundae, with a slice of signature cake and over 15 toppings to choose from. Stop by for a sweet treat, Tuesday through Saturday.

Buck ‘N Brew Coffee & Ice Cream, (18981 Asheville Hwy, Campobello)
“Have your [ice cream,] and eat it too” at Buck ‘N Brew. This specialty coffeeshop and ice cream parlor combo, has everything from hot fudge sundaes, handspun milkshakes, and cheerwine floats, to oreo frappes and sandwiches. Check out their 20+ flavors of ice cream, open Monday through Saturday. In a rush? They even have a drive-through!
Cardinal Coffee and Bistro, (114 East Rutherford St, Landrum)
Your visit to scenic Downtown Landrum is even more enjoyable with a coffee cup or ice cream cone in hand! In addition to specialty lattes and ice cream, Cardinal also offers a full menu of sandwiches, quiches, and housemade desserts. Have a little one? Kids’ cone or cup specials are just $2!
Cowpens Coffee & Creamery, (5370 North Main St, Cowpens)
Cowpens’ newest business is now brewing and scooping downtown; Cowpens Coffee & Creamery offers specialty coffee by Black Mountain, NC’s Dynamite Roasting Co. and 30+ flavors of 100+ rotating Hershey’s Ice Cream varieties. The shop is open seven days a week, and hosts frequent events such as themed storytimes and true crime nights.
Kempson Rexall Drugs, (27 North Main St, Inman)
Where can you get a hot dog, milkshake, flu shot, and glimpse of history all in the same visit? Kempson Rexall Drugs Inc. The nostalgic pharmacy and malt shop relocated to its current home in the heart of Downtown Inman (27 North Main St) by Dr. Fred Kempson in the mid-1960s, and it can trace its roots back to Inman's very first soda fountain pharmacy that opened in 1905.

Scoops on Main- Duncan, (2153 East Main St, Duncan)
Downtown City of Woodruff’s sweets shop serves up single, double, and liter treats. Scoops on Main offers multiple flavors by the scoop in waffle cones, sundaes, and even banana splits. Try their full menu for yourself, seven days a week.
Scoops also expanded to Duncan, operating both a second ice cream shop and “Scoops on the Go” catering cart. Both locations are now owned and operated by the owners of Spartanburg’s Knowledge Perk Coffee & Two Scoops Creamery.
Smallcakes Spartanburg, (198 West Main St)
With over 13 signature cupcakes, 250 rotating flavors, and 75 flavors of small-batch ice cream, Smallcakes Spartanburg has something to satisfy every sweet tooth. The bakery and creamery, owned by Cherella and Thomas Lee, is open Monday through Saturday, for the perfect post-meal or catering treat. Cupcakes are sold solo, by the half-dozen, or dozen.
Spill the Beans, (174 East Main St, Spartanburg)
Looking for coffee or ice cream? Tea or milkshakes? You don’t have to choose! This combo coffeeshop in Downtown Spartanburg’s historic Aug. W. Smith Building offers customizable blended ice cream creations and toppings by the cup or cone, open late seven days a week.
Strawberry Hill U.S.A., (3097 Hwy 11 West, Chesnee)
Most people know Strawberry Hill U.S.A. for their fresh-picked buckets of strawberries, baskets of peaches, and other seasonal produce. BUT, right across the street, stop by the Country Cafe and Ice Cream Parlor. The cafe is open year-round for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Grab a Southern bite to eat and a dessert to-go, then eat your sweet treats in a rocker on the porch.
Strawberry Hill offers 12 homemade flavors and 18 Gifford & Hershey flavors, plus milkshakes, banana splits, root beer floats, fresh berry sundaes, and more. The Ice Cream Parlor is open daily, 10am-8pm.
Two Scoops Creamery, (578 North Church St)
Did you know that Knowledge Perk Coffee Company has an in-house ice cream partner? The coffeeshop located in The Hub also offers specialty scoops by Two Scoops Creamery, with rotating flavors. Can’t decide between java or dessert? Try an affogato, a scoop of ice cream with fresh espresso poured over top.
